IFA 2017 Review

IFA has closed its doors and, as expected, presented a number of innovations in the Smart Home area. There was special focus on voice control, uncountable sensors, the Internet of Things (IoT) as well as smart household appliances and multimedia products. Unfortunately, many of these new things do not really have a raison d’être and all these ideas have one vital shortcoming: they are often only proprietary systems. However, this missing interoperability will be highly relevant for their application and usability in a Smart Home. Nevertheless, the path is clear; sensors, actuators and voice control will be of enormous importance in the development of the Smart Home market. According to the study "Der deutsche Smart-Home-Markt 2017 - 2022. Zahlen und Fakten" carried out by eco - Verband der Internetwirtschaft together with Arthur D. Little (ADL), published at the beginning of the IFA, in Germany alone, the turnover in this sector will triple to more than EUR 4 billion in the next 5 years. (+26,4 %).
