Analog input

Analog inputs are needed to capture analog DC sensor signals / measuring values of the type (voltage signals or current signals) 0-1 V, 0-5 V, 0-10 V, 1-10 V, 0-20 mA , 4-20 mA and to send them on the bus, e.g. for wind, rain, brightness, temperature, twilight, or moisture in order to process them further. Depending on the manufacturer also standard sensors PT100, PT1000 or NTC can be used. Thus, in the KNX system, telegrams 1 byte (EIS6) or 2-byte (EIS5) can be sent for display in KNX visualizations, KNX panels or displays. Analog inputs are also able to send limit values parameterized with the ETS as 1 bit values to the KNX bus to trigger other functions or messages as soon as a measured value exceeds a defined value or falls below it. KNX analog inputs usually require a voltages supply. This eibabo catalog contains analog inputs for various automation systems (LCN, Radio Bus, KNX, etc.). KNX analog inputs can be ordered for all installation types on the surface, concealed, built into ducts, walls or ceilings or for installation in electrical distributions. Now the question arises why an analog input is required if any common weather station already offers the usual sensors and this usually with considerably more parameters. However, usually a standard KNX weather station has just a few permanently installed sensors which is usually sufficient for the purpose of measuring physical environmental variables outside. However, on the market there are thousands of different conventional active and passive sensors for different requirements and functions. Conventional active 0-1 V, 0-5 V, 0-10 V, 1-10 V, 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA current or voltage sensors might be needed specifically, for example, for special sensors to carry out regulating processes by means of KNX. The potential for these conventional sensors is enormous and can be exploited by using KNX analog inputs. KNX also provides suitable input modules for passive sensors for evaluation in the KNX bus system. The disadvantage of analog signals is the susceptibility to trouble if there are very precise requirements. Therefore, in the automation sector analog sensors are increasingly replaced by digital systems in control technology. Therefore, the demand for sensors with digital output signal is increasing. Sensor manufacturers worldwide will benefit in the coming decades from the extreme demand for a variety of sensors, for example, for contactless capture of body temperature and heart rate, the detection of specific facial expressions and gestures to the point of recognizing emotional states from various signal evaluations, for intelligent systems (automation, smart home, robotics, etc.). We are fully convinced of this.
