Overload relays thermal

In order to protect electric motors from overload and phase failure, either motor protection switches or overload relays are used. If a thermal overload relay is chosen, it is installed in the main circuit and typically directly on a contactor. It does not switch off the motor directly, but if the worst comes to the worst, it controls the contactor via at least one break contact, which in turn switches off the motor. A thermal overload relay usually works with bimetal triggers, which heat up when there is an overload due to the higher motor current, then deform and thus trigger the relay.
