Cover frames

How do you turn your switches, buttons or sockets into a visual highlight? Are the standard models from the hardware store not individual enough for you? What are cover frames?

The cover frame forms the outer ring of a socket, button, switch, controller, network socket or other insert. The manufacturers have adapted to the needs of their customers and produce switch programs with which you can determine the appearance yourself. Cover frames are available for individual inserts, but also for two to eight times. For example, combinations of switches, buttons, sockets and network sockets are possible. Choose between numerous designs, materials and the many variants for vertical or horizontal installation.

Can frames and inserts from different switch series be combined?

Combine the cover frames in different designs with inserts from other series and manufacturers. This allows you to design switches, sockets or other inserts with different cover frames in your living room in a highly individual way. Or set up your office workstation ergonomically and efficiently according to your ideas.

What to look out for:

Is the cover frame suitable for a round or square insert?
What is the dimension of the inner diameter or cutout?
Are the corners of the cutout rounded?
Is the cutout square?
Does the color of the insert match the color of the frame?

This results in the choice of the appropriate insert. Most manufacturers produce frames and cover frames with an inner cut-out of 55x55mm or 50x50mm. This enables you to exchange, combine or vary central inserts such as sockets or switches with frames, regardless of the manufacturer. Refer to the product description to find out whether the inside dimensions of the cover frame you have chosen fit the desired central insert.

TIP:

White is not the same as white. If you want to combine different white parts from different manufacturers, please make sure that the color and the surface are the same.

Slight differences in color and surface gloss between white components quickly appear as incorrect colors. However, deviations do not pose a problem if two contrasting colors are intended to be combined.

Are there also cover frames that do not match other series?

Of course, there is nothing wrong with choosing a special range of switches from a specific supplier here in the shop. There are numerous cover frames and inserts that only fit the respective counterpart of the special series. Nevertheless, you have the opportunity for individual design, provided the series has color combinations.

Some manufacturers offer exclusive switch programs. These can be made of brass, stainless steel or brushed aluminium. Cover frames from these series are usually not compatible with other programs either.

How do I mount a cover frame?

In most cases, the cover frame is clamped behind the central plate (the plastic part of the insert) of the socket, switch or button. This is held securely by screwing the central plate to the insert. If you want to remove the frame, loosen the screw in the middle of the central plate and pull it off carefully. Now you can remove the frame. Please pay attention to your safety, because after removing the covers, the current-carrying contacts are exposed. When working with electricity, please always switch off the power supply beforehand and secure it against being switched on again.

Hygienically clean

Central plates and cover frames are often touched and should be cleaned regularly. Dirty plastic parts can be cleaned again in the dishwasher.

Cover frames that are sensitive to heat or water (e.g. metal frames) should be carefully cleaned by hand. Before you begin assembly again, the clean parts must be absolutely dry. Place the frame behind the central plate and screw it to the insert.

Do cover frames break easily?

Cover frames and central plates are rarely subjected to greater loads. Only during assembly and disassembly is there a risk of damage, for example by overtightening the screw.
